London Travel Guide
London Baby! Can’t think of anything but Friends when traveling to London.
This was my second time visiting London and I loved it even more than the first time. Since my family had never been before, we did a lot of the first time sightseeing mixed in with strolling through less busy neighborhoods and just wandering.
Activities
You definitely have to hit all of the major tourist attractions, as crowded as they may be. Take a stop at Westminster Abbey and then head over to the London Eye for a great view of the city. Make sure you go to Buckingham Palace one morning for the changing of the guards, it really is something special. Walking across the Tower Bridge is also a must do, even for me and I hate heights! We visited Kensington Palace during this trip as well, which I had never done before, and it was stunning. I’m so glad we made that stop because on top of the beautiful gardens, there was so much history to learn about.
Food
I ate the best meal of my life while we were in London. Mitchell had planned a dinner for all of us at Gordon Ramsay’s Heddon Street Kitchen. It was phenomenal. We ordered the meatballs and polenta for an appetizer and were literally scraping the sauce off the plate when we finished, it was that good. Then we had the beef wellington which i’d literally been dreaming about after watching so many episodes of Hell’s Kitchen. It was everything I’d dreamed of and more. I highly recommend it. It also was served with truffle mashed potatoes which I would fly to London for right now. The icing on the cake was dessert. We got a chocolate wellington, phenomenal, and the best lava cake I’d eve had in my entire life.
Another favorite of mine is Harrods for afternoon tea. Everyone knows how much I love tea by now, so this is one of my favorite activities. The finger sandwiches are amazing and the desserts are phenomenal. And endless tea? Yes please! Some other great spots we went to included the Clerk and Well and the Inn of Court. Mitchell knew about them from when he studied abroad in London and they were great local spots.
Stay
We rented an airbnb in Kensington and it was the cutest neighborhood. We got breakfast a great little cafe and were right by the tube. We were also only 10 minutes from Kensington Palace and some great shopping. I would definitely recommend staying in this area. It feels like the quintessential “London” you picture.
